Grammy winning rapper pleads in gun possession case

Lil Wayne entered a guilty plea for the charge in court Thursday.
New York (WiredPRNews.com) – Grammy award winning rapper Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to gun possession in a Manhattan court on Thursday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the popular artist, whose last album “Tha Carter III” received high critical acclaim, faces a year in jail for the case stemming from 2007.
As noted by the AP, the technique used to test DNA samples that reportedly connected the gun found by authorities on a tour bus in 2007 to Lil Wayne was an initial major focus of the case, sparking debate between prosecutors and the rapper’s defense attorney Stacey Richman over its validity. However, it is no longer expected to be an issue debated in court due to the plea Thursday.
Lil Wayne, whose birth name is Dwayne Carter, is set to be sentenced in February.
