Woman ticketed for not speaking English seeks investigation

A Dallas woman ticketed for not speaking English is requesting a thorough investigation into the case.
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – A Dallas woman who was recently given a citation for being unable to speak English is requesting further investigation into the matter. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Ernestina Mondragon told reporters Sunday in her native language, with the aid of a translator, that she was humiliated by the incident, and wanted further review of the incident.
As noted in the report, Mondragon was pulled over by police for a traffic violation while driving her 11 year-old daughter to school. Mondragon is quoted by the Dallas Morning News as stating of being ticketed for not speaking English, “I felt I’d been looked down on and discriminated against.”
Mondragon’s attorney Domingo Garcia is reportedly seeking a review into the practices of the Dallas police department to see if there is a pattern of racial profiling within the system. Garcia is quoted in the report as stating, “I want the Dallas Police Review Board to monitor the investigation as an impartial third party.”
