An expert witness reportedly stated that Anna Nicole Smith was given excessive prescriptions prior to her death.
Los Angeles, CA (WiredPRNews.com) – An expert witness testified Tuesday that Anna Nicole Smith was given excessive prescriptions by her doctor prior to her death. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Dr. James Gagne testified at a preliminary hearing for three defendants who have been accused of giving the late model drugs illegally, that Dr. Sandeep Kapoor prescribed multiple opiates for Smith.
As noted by the AP, Kapoor, former attorney and boyfriend of Smith Howard K. Stern, and Smith’s psychiatrist Dr. Khristine Eroshevich have been charged with conspiracy for allegedly providing Smith with controlled substances illegally. The hearing this week is to determine whether the co-defendants should be tried for the charges.
Psychiatry expert Dr. Timothy Botello also testified at the hearing on Monday. Botello is quoted as stating in regards to the drug dosages Eroshevich was prescribing for Smith, “Given the history of substance abuse, you would be careful to give the lowest amount.”
