Curry compound linked to destruction of cancer cells

Researchers have found that curcumin may kill cancer cells.
New York (WiredPRNews.com) – A compound found in curry dishes may aid in killing cancer cells. As reported by Reuters, researchers found that the ingredient curcumin kills esophageal cancer cells, and could one day be developed as a treatment for eradicating some types of cancer.
As noted in the report, Cork Cancer Research Center in Ireland scientists conducted a study in which they treated esophageal cancer cells with the compound and found it began destroying the harmful cells within 24 hours. Previous studies have found that curcumin may aid in the suppression of tumors, however, its anti-cancer properties are lost quickly after ingestion. Curcumin has also reportedly been found to have benefits for the immune system in those with Alzheimer’s disease in past research.
More information about the study may be available in the British Journal of Cancer.
