Wired PR News reports Facebook has been awarded a multimillion dollar judgement in an anti-spam case.

Facebook has been awarded over $700 million in damages for an anti-spam case.Los Angeles (WiredPRNews.com) – A California court has ordered a web marketer to pay Facebook more than $700 million in damages for sending out spam to users. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the social networking site was awarded a $711 million judgment against web marketer Sanford Wallace this week for accessing personal information on the site’s users and sending out junk messages.Sam O’Rourke, associate general counsel for Facebook, is quoted by the AP as stating in a blog posting about the case, “While we don’t expect to receive the vast majority of the award, we hope that this will act as a continued deterrent against these criminals…This is another important victory in our fight against spam.”As noted in the report, another popular social networking site, MySpace, was awarded $230 million in an anti-spam case last year.WiredPRNews.com – The latest in Legal News and Press Release Distribution
