Four slain in Mayberry inspired town
A man has been charged with the shooting deaths of four individuals in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
Mount Airy, N.C. (WiredPRNews.com) – A man has been charged with the shooting deaths of four individuals in a town regarded as the inspiration for the setting of the popular 1960’s program “The Andy Griffith Show.” As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Marcos Chavez Gonzales has been charged with murder for shooting four people outside of a television store in Mount Airy, North Carolina.
As noted by the AP, Gonzales is said to be the boyfriend of the mother of one of the victims. Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the killings.
Gary Chilton, an owner of Chilton Insurance Group, which neighbors the television store outside of which the murders took place, Wood’s TV, is quoted by the AP as stating, “I’m not sure it’s totally sunk in because it’s so unusual. On any given Sunday there is nothing here in this parking lot. There’s nothing here at all… My biggest question is why in this parking lot at all. Why Wood’s TV parking lot?”
