Soldier opens fire at Fort Hood army base
Twelve people were killed and 31 more were wounded after a gunman opened fire at a Texas Army base.
Fort Hood, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – A gunman opened fire at a U.S. Army base in Texas, killing 12 people, and injuring 31 others. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the gunman, Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was subsequently taken to a hospital and put on watch, and two other individuals were taken into custody as suspects in the shootings.
As noted in the report the shooting suspect has sparked many military bases across the nation to take additional security precautions. Capt. Rob Dolan, public affairs officer for the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma, Arizona, is quoted by the AP as stating, “The bottom line for us is that we are increasing security at our gates because the threat hasn’t yet been defined, and we’re reminding our Marines to be vigilant in their areas of responsibility.”
President Barack Obama is further quoted in the report as stating of an investigation into the shootings, “We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident… We are going to stay on this.”
