Balloon Boy parents enter guilty plea
The parents accused of a hoax involving reports of their young son being in danger aboard a runaway balloon pleaded guilty to charges this week.
Fort Collins, Colorado (WiredPRNews.com) – The parents of a young boy mistakenly believed to have floated away in a runaway balloon have pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the hoax. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Richard and Mayumi Heene may receive jail time or probation after pleading guilty to charges arising out of their falsely reporting that their son was aboard a home-made balloon that floated away from their reach last month.
As noted by the AP, Richard Heene pleaded guilty to a felony charge and his wife pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for filing a false police report. The couple admitted the stint was done for publicity. Sentencing for the Heenes is set for December 23.
