Lauren Bacall, others given early Oscars
The screen legend and two other stars were given Oscars months in advance of the traditional ceremony schedule.
Los Angeles (WiredPRNews.com) – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented Oscars to screen legend Lauren Bacall and two other individuals this weekend. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Academy presented the awards months in advance of the usual schedule for the televised ceremony at a dinner party.
As noted in the report, Roger Coleman and cinematographer Gordon Willis joined Bacall as early Oscar recipients. Other stars, including Morgan Freeman and Tom Hanks, were present at the black-tie affair that reportedly had a turn out of 600 invited guests.
Warren Beatty is quoted by the AP as stating of the unusual change of having no television cameras present at the event, “It’s so much better … that nobody’s worrying whether 36.5 million people are watching us or 29.2.”
