An astronaut is awaiting word about the birth of his daughter, while he prepares for a spacewalk.
Houston (WiredPRNews.com) – In an usual twist of fate, an astronaut aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis is awaiting the birth of his daughter on Earth, while he remains in space. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the wife of Astronaut Randolph Bresnik was due to give birth Friday as he was preparing for his spacewalk the following day.
Bresnik is quoted in the report as stating of the reaction of his wife, a fellow Johnson Space Center employee, to his possibly missing the birth, “this is a pretty good excuse and hopefully she’ll forgive me for it later on.”
As noted by the AP, the Atlantis is not expected to depart from the International Space Station until the day before Thanksgiving.
