Woman loses sick leave benefits after Facebook post
A woman loses sick leave benefits after being spotted on Facebook.
Bromont, Quebec (WiredPRNews.com) – A Canadian woman reportedly lost her sick leave benefits because of photos that were posted of her on Facebook. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Nathalie Blanchard, who had taken sick leave from her job at IBM for depression, was stripped of her benefits after her insurance agent Manulife found Facebook photos that depicted her having fun.
As noted by the AP, Manulife alleged the photos were supportive of the claim that Blanchard was no longer suffering from depression. She and her attorney are reportedly exploring her legal options to have the benefits reinstated.
As further noted in the report, Manulife asserted that it is not their practice to terminate or deny claims on the sole basis of Facebook photos and similar website information.
