Sportswriter found dead in suspected suicide
A sportswriter for the Los Angeles Times who previously announced he was a transsexual has been found dead.
Los Angeles, CA (WiredPRNews.com) – A sportswriter for the L.A. Times, who received widespread media attention after announcing he was a transsexual, has reportedly been found dead. As reported by Reuters, Mike Penner, 52, was suspected to have committed suicide after being found dead in his home, according to a report Saturday by the Times.
As noted by Reuters, Penner worked for the Los Angeles Times for 25 years on the sports staff of the news publication. Times Sports Editor Mike James is quoted in the report as stating in the paper’s report on the death of his colleague, “He was one of the most talented writers I’ve ever worked with… He was a gentle man, a kind man. It’s just a tragedy.”
