Michaele and Tareq Salahi - Uninvited couple attends Obama first state dinner
A couple crashed the president’s first state dinner.
Washington (WiredPRNews.com) – An uninvited couple reportedly attended the first state dinner of the Obama administration recently held at the White House. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Virginia couple was not verified to be on the guest list by the Secret Service, but attended the gala with over 300 invited guests.
As noted by the AP, Michaele and Tareq Salahi were met in the receiving line to be greeted by President Barack Obama and honoree at the dinner, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan is quoted in the report as stating of the incident, “As our investigation continues, appropriate measures have been taken to ensure this is not repeated… Although these individuals went through magnetometers and other levels of screening, they should have been prohibited from entering the event entirely. That failing is ours.”
Sullivan is further quoted as stating, “While we have protocols in place to address these situations, we must ensure that they are followed each and every time.”
