Online bartering an option for some Christmas shoppers
Some families are taking advantage of online bartering opportunities for Christmas gifts.
Arlington, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – Tough times have led some families to turn to online bartering for holiday gift shopping. As reported by CBS 11 News, some parents and others who have been impacted by the recession are utilizing websites like Craigslist.com to barter for Christmas gifts for their families this holiday season.
Arlington resident Gina LaValle, is quoted in the report as stating of her family’s financial situation, “We used to have a really big house: three bedroom, two bath. It had everything. My kids had a trampoline. My kids had a sand box. They had everything you would want a kid to have” but now, “They’ve lost everything. We’ve had to sell it to get money for food or to try and pay bills.”
LaValle is further quoted as stating of being one of the numerous individuals who have placed bartering ads online in order to provide Christmas gifts to her children this year, “I’ll split wood. I’ll baby-sit. I’ll clean house. My husband’s a mechanic. He’ll work on cars… I don’t want a hand out. That’s why I said I would barter. Just make it a little brighter than it’s been.”
