BP workers awarded $100 million in lawsuit

Workers who filed a personal injury claim against BP have been awarded $100 million by a jury.

A jury has awarded millions to ten workers who allege they sustained injuries as a result of contamination.

Houston, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – Ten workers for British Petroleum PLC’s (BP) plant in Texas City have been awarded millions in a personal injury lawsuit against the company. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the workers were awarded $100 million by a federal jury on Friday, after alleging they sustained injuries from contamination within the plant.

BP is quoted by the AP as stating of the verdict, “We are shocked and outraged by today’s verdict, and we will appeal… The verdict, and punitive damages award in particular, is utterly unjustified, improper and unsupportable.”

Tony Buzbee, an attorney for the plaintiffs, is further quoted in the report as stating of attempts at reaching a settlement prior to the verdict, “They tried to minimize it, attack the credibility of the workers… They simply would not admit that they had released something.”
