Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – Police in Dallas are targeting electricity theft to identify and shut down a higher number of drug houses. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, many suspected drug suppliers are believed to be stealing electricity to remain in operation.

Dallas police Sgt. Bill Griffith is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “Almost every drug house we go to, the electric box has been tampered with and they’re stealing electricity… We’ve heard that there are people on the streets that you pay 50, 100 bucks to and they will hook up your meter for you. I’m amazed at how much electricity is being stolen out here.”

As noted in the report, power theft contributes to $6 billion in costs for the utility industry on a nationwide scale.
