Fort Myers (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has begun investigating the source of an asbestos finding along Summerlin Road near Fort Myers. As reported by NaplesNews.com, some have suggested that the asbestos, which halted the completion of a construction project at the Summerlin Road overpass, may have originated from a site at Imperial Parkway.

DEP inspector Sherrill Culliver, is quoted in the report as stating of the tips received regarding the asbestos finding, “There have been rumors that material from that property was taken to Summerlin…We know some pipes were crushed at that site. We haven’t been able to determine how much was there.”

As noted in the report, tests confirmed that asbestos, a toxic mineral linked to diseases such as mesothelioma cancer, was found in dirt used at the Summerlin site.
