A new website is offering financial incentives for people seeking to lose weight.

More financial incentives are being offered for weight loss from various sources.

U.S. (WiredPRNews.com) – A new weight loss trend has taken effect that has motivated many to work to shed unwanted pounds. As reported by TIME, an independent website HealthyWage.com, has joined the ranks of companies who offer their employees rewards for weight loss, and is offering people financial incentives to lose weight.

As noted in the report, the site, which launched in October, has had approximately 5,000 people sign up so far to participate in challenges to lose weight. Welmoed Sisson, who has signed up for the sight is quoted by TIME as stating, “Sure, I’d like to look and feel better… “but it is so subjective. Money is a better motivator because it is tangible. You can hold it in your hand.”

Dr. Kevin Volpp, lead author of a study published in 2008 in the Journal of the American Medical Association regarding financial incentives for dieters, is further quoted in the report as stating, “Employers and individuals are desperate for a new approach… We will undoubtedly see more of these programs and initiatives in the future.”
