Newspapers produce most local news
A new study reveals that newspapers are still the most prominent carriers of local news.
San Francisco (WiredPRNews.com) – Despite the boom in Internet news resources, newspapers are still shown to be the most prominent carriers of local news. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a recent study shows that most local news stories are originally generated by newspapers.
As noted in the report, 53 media outlets were monitored for the study, which found that original reports from newspapers serve as the basis for major headlines from several major outlets. Tom Rosenstiel, director of the Project for Excellence in Journalism, is quoted by the AP as stating, “This study does suggest that if newspapers were to disappear, what would be left to aggregate?”
The Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism review will reportedly be released on Monday.
