Skating champion endures family tragedy

The father of Olympic medal winner Nancy Kerrigan has died and her brother stands accused of assault.
Woburn, Massachusetts (WiredPRNews.com) – The father of two-time Olympic medal winner Nancy Kerrigan has died. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Daniel Kerrigan, who was recognized after rushing to the aid of his daughter when she was attacked at a skating competition in 1994, passed away Sunday after a reported altercation with his son Mark, who now stands accused of assault.
As noted by the AP, family members have stated that the struggle with his son was not linked to Daniel Kerrigan’s death. Mark Kerrigan reportedly entered a not guilty plea Monday for the alleged attack at the family home.
Jim Day, a purported family friend of the Kerrigans, is quoted in the report as stating of the unfortunate circumstances, “They have lost a husband, a father, a brother, a grandfather, someone that they loved very dearly.”
