Wal-Mart mass cuts Sam’s Club jobs
Wal-Mart has reportedly planned more than 11,000 job cuts at its Sam’s Club stores.
New York (WiredPRNews.com) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is reportedly planning to cut approximately 11,200 jobs at its Sam’s Club stores. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the retail giant is cutting jobs for the stores’ warehouse division, which accounts for ten percent of staffers, and allowing in-store product demonstrations to be handled by outside marketers.
As noted in the report, the state of the economy, and lower rates of families eating out, has prompted Sam’s stores to be more competitive with other grocery chains.
Sam’s Club CEO Brian Cornell is quoted by the AP as stating of the changes, “In the club channel, demo sampling events are a very important part of the experience…Shopper Events specializes in this area and they can take our sampling program to the next level.”
