Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – Entertainer turned politician Kinky Friedman is seeking the Democratic nomination for Texas Agriculture Commissioner. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Friedman, who previously ran for Texas governor, recently spoke about his campaign amid reports that some are not taking his plans seriously.

Friedman is quoted in the report as stating, “I’m as serious as Ann Richards… This is about taking care of the land, protecting animals and listening to people.” Friedman has reportedly garnered support from fellow entertainer Willie Nelson, but has yet to be endorsed by major sources.

Laura Stromberg, press secretary for Friedman during the 2006 governor race, is quoted in the report as stating, “He has a genuine interest in being an elected official, but I don’t know what the motivation is for this position… I don’t think he has come out with anything that shows he learned something in the first race, no new ideas, nothing really bold.”
