Motivational speaker indicted for manslaughter
James Arthur Ray has been charged with manslaughter after sweat lodge deaths.
Arizona (WiredPRNews.com) – A famed motivational speaker has been arrested in connection with the deaths of three people during a ceremony last year. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), James Arthur Ray has been charged with manslaughter after three individuals died and several others became ill during a sweat lodge ceremony last October.
An attorney for Ray, Luis Li, is quoted in the report as stating of his client’s arrest, “This was a terrible accident, but it was an accident, not a criminal act… James Ray cooperated at every step of the way, providing information and witnesses to the authorities showing that no one could have foreseen this accident.”
As noted by the AP, if convicted Ray, who has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and “Larry King Live,” could receive up to 12 ½ years in prison for each count.
