San Francisco (WiredPRNews.com) – Google has recently introduced an addition to its email service that some say could put it in a more competitive position with social networking sites like Facebook. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Google Buzz, a new channel on Gmail has been developed with features similar to those made popular on Facebook.
Google co-founder Sergey Brin is quoted by the AP as stating of hopes for success of the channel, “Every couple years something new and revolutionary emerges and thanks to the Internet it can really emerge very quickly and affect many people in a short period of time… I certainly hope that trend will continue and I hope we will make our own contribution with this set of capabilities.”
As noted in the report, the new channel was introduced days after Facebook presented changes as well. The company is quoted as releasing the statement regarding Google’s new channel, “Generally, we’re supportive of technologies that help make the Web more social and the world more open and are interested to see how Google Buzz progresses over time.”
