Wired PR News reports Chatroulette.com was founded by a Russian teenager.

A Russian teenager is the purported mastermind of a new website that connects users to strangers.

Washington (WiredPRNews.com) – A new website that’s gained major publicity since its launch is reportedly the brainchild of a Russian teen. As reported by AFP, the site Chatroulette.com, has sparked controversy, with some disapproving of its live video connection of users and random others whose identities they do not know, and others viewing it as ingenious.

Fred Wilson, a venture capitalist with Union Square Ventures and Flatiron Partners, is quoted by AFP as stating of the site, “There certainly is a disturbing amount of perversion and sexual innuendo on Chatroulette, but there is so much else…The Internet is this huge network with over a billion people worldwide on it…Chatroulette feels like a pretty cool way to take a quick trip around that network, meeting people and talking to them.”

Andrey Ternovskiy, the 17-year-old Moscow student who founded Chatroulette, is further quoted in the report as stating to The New York Times of his venture, “Everyone finds his own way of using the site. Some think it is a game, others think it is a whole unknown world, others think it is a dating service….I think it’s cool that such a simple concept can be useful for so many people.”
