As reported by NewsFactor.com, Salesforce Chatter, offered by Salesforce.com, seeks to assist organizations with improving their understanding about operations within their companies by providing a platform for organizational social netwoking.
Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of salesforce.com, is quoted in the report as stating of the inspiration for the platform, “Consumer Internet services like Facebook and Twitter have shown us better ways to collaborate.”
Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT, is further quoted in the report as stating of the promise shown for the idea behind Chatter, “The different ways different vendors have been trying to leverage social-networking trends in business environments is interesting… IBM was the first company to start supporting different types of inter-organizational social networking. The ability to get your arms around information coming from disparate sources is a valuable concept.”
