Investigation begins into school asbestos removal

Australia (Mesothelioma Cancer News) – An investigation has reportedly begun into the removal process of asbestos at a school in north Queensland. As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation News, the State Government ordered an investigation into accusations regarding a breach of the Workplace Health and Safety Act during asbestos removal at the West Mackay Primary School during the summer.
Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten is quoted in the report as stating of the investigation, “If a breach has occurred, those responsible will be dealt with to the full extent possible by the Department of Public Works… Let me also reassure members the incident occurred during school holidays and at no stage were children or teachers or parents in possible harm’s way.”
Asbestos is a toxic mineral linked to serious health conditions such as mesothelioma.
