Rescue efforts continue after Chile earthquake
Rescue efforts continue as the death toll following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile rises.
Chile (WiredPRNews.com) – Rescuers continued with search efforts in Chile Sunday following a devastating earthquake. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the death toll rose to over 700 Sunday and an estimated 500,000 houses were purportedly damaged. The number of people reportedly missing continues to rise as well.
President Michele Bachelet is quoted by the AP as stating of the destruction, “We are facing a catastrophe of such unthinkable magnitude that it will require a giant effort” for recovery. The 8.8 earthquake struck Saturday, causing considerable damage to the city of Concepcion.
Police officer Jorge Guerra is further quoted in the report as stating of continued rescue efforts “There are people alive. There are several people who are going to be rescued.”
