YouTube expands automatic caption feature
The video sharing site now offers an automatic caption feature for all English-language videos.
Washington (WiredPRNews.com) – Video sharing web site YouTube is expanding its automatic caption feature for all English-language videos on the site, as reported by AFP. The site initially made a manual caption feature available for users in 2008 on several partner channels.
Hiroto Tokusei, a product manager for YouTube, is quoted by AFP as stating in a blog post of the extension of the subtitles generating feature, “Making video easily accessible is something we’re working hard to address at YouTube.” Tokusei is further stated to have noted that more that 700 million people across the globe will be affected by hearing impairment in the next few years, and that audio captioning in languages other than English is anticipated in the months ahead.
