Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – Parents of a young girl who had a stroke at the age of three have begun a campaign to raise awareness about the condition in children. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, the parents of now four-year-old Dawson Quiroz have launched Dawson’s Cause in an effort to faciliate more research and support for child stroke awareness.
As noted in the report, child strokes are stated to affect three out of every 100,000 children every year, and are classified in the top ten causes of child deaths. Dawson’s mother Patti Quiroz is quoted in the report as stating of the condition affecting her own daughter, “You hear of cancer and leukemia in children, but not strokes… And then you’re told they can’t tell you why, just hope it doesn’t happen again.”
The family is reportedly working on fundraising efforts to raise $1 million for Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
