City of Carrollton sued for civil rights violations

A Carrollton car dealer is suing the city for civil rights violations.
Dallas, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – A Carrollton car dealer is suing the city, alleging violations of his civil rights. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Shomari Staten filed the federal lawsuit citing excessive force was used against him by a police officer while he was attempting to deliver a vehicle.
As noted in the report, Staten obtained a video showcasing the incident which occurred a year ago after a judge ordered the city to turn it over. He alleges he was arrested after initially checking on his open records request for the video, and officers subsequently parked at his home during the night on several occasions.
Staten is quoted in the report as stating of the matter, “I have friends who will not even visit me in Carrollton because they fear racial profiling because of their race… This incident definitely brought it to the surface. I do not feel safe. I have had to put surveillance cameras on my house.”
