Location services tested for mobile social networking

Mobile social networking services are compared at a recent event.
Austin, Texas (WiredPRNews.com) – Mobile social networking services were compared Saturday at South by South West (SXSW). As reported by AFP, users were engaged in a Poter Novelli sponsored scavenger hunt at SXSW in Austin to test the features of services such as Foursquare, Gowalla, Tweetsii and Toodalu.
Israel Mirsky, public relations firm Porter Novelli’s emerging technology executive vice president, is quoted in the report as stating, “Location-based services are big… FourSquare and Gowalla use game methods to keep people engaged but they are ultimately utilities because they help friends find each other.”
Jay Cahill is further quoted in the report as stating of the service Tweetsii, “It allows you to find out what is going on, what is hot and nearby… What Google and Bing are doing trying to search and index what is available from the Web, we are doing that for the real world.”
