Jessica Simpson examines beauty standards with new show

The singer’s new reality show premiered on Monday.
New York (WiredPRNews.com) – Jessica Simpson’s new reality series premiered on Monday. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the VH1 program, “Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty” examines international beauty standards and purportedly seeks to help women be more accepting of their imperfections.
As noted in the report, the show comes after Simpson herself experienced media scrutiny about her appearance due to her weight. Simpson is quoted by the AP as stating of being motivated by the negativity to do the program, “You can’t walk anywhere without thinking, ‘I wonder if they think I’m fat …. I wonder if they’ve read that story…I couldn’t help it. And I think that once I realized it wasn’t going to stop, I had to find a way to accept it, and I had to find a way to use it.”
Simpson is further quoted as stating, “I’m very vulnerable on the show. I’m very open. I don’t have anything to hide… I want people to know I am just a normal girl that faces normal issues just like everyone else.”
