A federal judge struck down a city ordinance prohibiting illegal immigrant renters on Wednesday.
Farmers Branch (WiredPRNews.com) – A federal judge struck down a Farmers Branch ordinance pertaining to renting to illegal immigrants. As reported by the Dallas Morning News, U.S. District Judge Jane Boyle ruled Wednesday that a city prohibition on renting to illegal immigrants was not constitutional, citing it as being an attempt to enforce U.S. laws on immigration.
Farmers Branch Mayor Tom O’Hare is quoted in the report as stating of his wishes to appeal the decision, “The American people are tired of judges legislating from the bench… This decision is not unexpected but welcomed, because it allows us to get closer to this ordinance becoming reality.”
As noted in the report, according to O’Hare, the City Council would be required to vote on whether to proceed with the battle for which they’ve already paid a cost of $3.2 million.
