The president reportedly failed to return two overdue books at a library in New York.
New York (WiredPRNews.com) – The first president of the United States reportedly may have the longest overdue library fine in the nation’s history. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), George Washington is shown to have accrued late fees over the past 220 years on two books he failed to return to a New York library.
As noted in the report, the books are listed in a ledger of the New York Society Library as having been due Nov. 2, 1789. Mark Bartlett who is head of the library, which is the oldest in the city, is noted by the AP to state they are not pursuing payment of the amount owed but would like to have the books returned.
