An increasing number of divorce attorneys are finding helpful information on sites like Facebook.
U.S. (WiredPRNews.com) – An increasing number of divorce attorneys are finding social networking sites like Facebook to be helpful for their cases. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), current litigation practices are putting more focus into finding useful information shared by social media users online.
Mary Anne Decaria of Reno, president of the Nevada chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, is quoted in the report as stating that Facebook as a legal resource, “is fun for lawyers because you can find the proverbial smoking gun.”
As noted in the report, many attorneys are finding ways to discredit their opponents in court using information released by plaintiffs or defendents on their personal web pages. Attorney Marshal Willick is further quoted as stating, “It’s amazing what people tell the universe… It’s unwise to put something on the Internet and say something else in court.”
