The Brooklyn Bridge is reportedly getting a makeover to the tune of $500 million. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the repaint and repair project for the famous 127 year-old bridge is expected to take four years for completion.
As noted in the report, part of the funding for the renovation was provided by the federal economic recovery act. Vice President Joe Biden is quoted by the AP as stating of the needed upgrades, “This bridge is an emblem of what this great country represents.”
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is further quoted as stating of the time frame between current plans and the latest updates to the bridge, “It is the first major work on the bridge in 10 years.”
A reported 120,000 vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians are stated to travel on the bridge daily.
