Grand Isle, La. – President Barack Obama warned BP about taking responsibility for damages done by the oil disaster. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Obama had sharp words for the company during his trip to the Gulf of Mexico Friday, while assessing the needs of shrimpers, fisherman, and others whose lives the spill has greatly impacted.
Obama is quoted by the AP as stating, “I don’t want them nickel-and-diming people down here…I don’t want somebody else bearing the costs of those risks that they took. I want to make sure that they’re paying for it.”
As noted in the report, the administration billed BP $69 million in recovery costs Thursday, and the number is expected to grow significantly in the coming weeks. Up to an estimated 47 million gallons of oil has reportedly been spilled since the April 20th explosion that triggered the disaster.
