New York – “Golden Girls” star Rue McClanahan has died. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), McClanahan passed away Thursday in New York, after suffering a brain hemorrhage.
McClanahan co-starred in the hit 1980s-1990s sitcom “The Golden Girls” along with Betty White, Beatrice Arthur, and Estelle Getty, playing the role of Blanche Devereaux. She also had roles on “Maude” and “Mama’s Family.” In 2007, McClanahan released her memoir “My First Five Husbands … And the Ones Who Got Away.”
McClanahan is quoted by the AP as stating to the New York Times in 1985 that the “Golden Girls” helped exhibit “that when people mature, they add layers…They don’t turn into other creatures. The truth is we all still have our child, our adolescent, and your young woman living in us.”
