The Venezuelan President says social media has helped maintain awareness of citizen opinions.
Caracas – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has reportedly accredited Twitter with helping him stay connected with citizens. As reported by Reuters, Chavez is said to have suggested the social media outlet has been a means of hearing requests, complaints, and other views of his followers.
Chavez is quoted by Reuters as stating in a recent meeting, “This telephone is close to melting. Now I am aware of many things going on here.” Chavez’s Twitter following has reportedly reached over 450,000.
Andrea Hoare, digital trends professor at the Central University of Venezuela, is quoted in the report as stating of Chavez’s social media use, “Chavez turned himself into a user of the power of digital platforms, which I think is an interesting political movement… Rather than fight them, he joined.”
