Pound, Virginia – An inmate is requesting to be sent to death row to prevent him from killing again. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Robert Gleason Jr., who murdered his cellmate last month is seeking to be sentenced to death for the recent murder, saying he would kill again if he isn’t given the death penalty.
Gleason, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of another man, is quoted by the AP as stating of his actions, “I murdered that man cold-bloodedly. I planned it, and I’m gonna do it again… Someone needs to stop it. The only way to stop me is put me on death row.”
As noted in the report, Gleason is expected to be sentenced August 31. He is further quoted as stating to Wise County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ron Elkins regarding seeking a death sentence, “There’s nothing you guys can do to me to hurt me. Nothing… But there’s something you guys can do to prevent someone else from getting hurt.”
