Monroe, Ohio – The landmark “King of Kings” statue in southwest Ohio was recently struck by lightning. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the statue nicknamed Touchdown Jesus, burned to the ground from a fire that resulted from the lightning strike Monday night.
As noted in the report, the sculpture, which showed Jesus with raised hands, stood approximately 62 feet tall in front of the Solid Rock Church in Monroe.
Co-pastor of the church Darlene Bishop, is quoted by the AP as stating of the statue, “This meant a lot to a lot of people… It will be back, but this time we are going to try for something fireproof.”
