June 20, 2010 – Although Google web page rankings are the primary focus of many companies and SEOs, due to its significant percentage of search volume, some suggest Microsoft’s current search engine is an up and coming force to be reckoned with when it comes to SEO. Dallas website design and development company, We Do Web Pages, discusses possible reasons web marketers may need to begin putting more focus on SEO for Bing.
When Opportunity Knocks
Bing is stated by some to be laced with new opportunities that have yet to be seen with other search engines. In a recent interview with Web Pro News, Janet Driscoll Miller, President and CEO of Search Mojo stated, “There’s some new opportunities with Bing that you don’t have necessarily with Google like the document preview, which allows you to roll over something in Bing and see a preview of some of the information you would get on that particular website, similar to what’s been done with Ask.com.”
However, Miller further noted, “There’s lots of opportunities that may not exist in Google today that you have in Bing, that are unique, and then some challenges, of course. For instance Bing shopping is paid only whereas Google shopping is a free upload, and so there’s still some challenges there if you want to show up in universal search results.”
Overall however, Miller suggests that search volume for Bing is expected to grow, and despite the natural inclination to focus primarily on Google, it may be in the best interest of webmasters to start focusing on Bing as well, stating, “At some point these are coming together and it’s going to be 30 to 35 percent of search volume, and so their very important to you.”
