Have you ever been on a cruise and returned back to your cabin after a fun day in the sun to find your towels in the shape of animals lying on the bed? After staring at the hanging monkey or crawling lobster for at least a good 10 minutes, we always wonder, “How can I do that at home?”
Origami is unique art form, thought to have originated in ancient Egypt when the Egyptians created towel origami to amuse Cleopatra during her notoriously long baths. Becoming increasing popular today, towel origami can be found not only on cruise lines, but in bed and breakfasts, spas, beauty salons and real estate agents are even using towel origami when staging houses for sale. In just a few simple steps, you too can create your own towel origami art at home!
How to create the Tropical Palm Tree:
1 Bath Towel
5 Wash Cloths
Step 1: Lay the bath towel out flat horizontally and roll the towel up tightly and evenly across the width from the right-hand side to the left-hand side.
Step 2: Grasp the roll firmly in one hand and find the corner of the towel inside the roll at the top. Pull the corner out of the roll to make the tapered tree trunk.
Step 3: Now, tuck the lower ends of the trunk inside the lower rolled layers to make a thicker shape. Note: This shape will not stand up by itself and must be displayed flat.
Step 4: Tuck three of the four corners of a wash cloth into the top part of the trunk. Adjust the wash cloth to form a “leafy” look. Repeat this process with the remaining four wash cloths.
Step 5: Place 3 mini guest soaps where the trunk meets the palm froms to represent coconuts.
