Super Nanny Academy

GREATER CHICAGO AREA/June 24, 2010/ North Shore Pediatric Therapy (http://www.nspt4kids.com) and First Class Care, Inc. (http://www.firstclasscare.com) have launched Super Nanny Academy™, a professional training course for nannies and caregivers of children with any type of difficult behaviors. The class, which is taught by certified applied behavior therapists, covers transitions, following directions, noncompliance, tantrums, eating and sleeping problems, potty training, sibling rivalry and more. The founders of the program, Deborah Michael and Erin Krex, believe it is the first of its kind to be offered in the Chicago area.

As President of First Class Care, Inc., a domestic placement agency, and a parent herself, Erin Krex fully understands the needs of her clients. But finding qualified, professional nannies capable of handling difficult and complex behavior issues proved to be an ongoing challenge.

“On a daily basis, I hear from parents seeking a nanny qualified to manage children with bad behavior or specific conditions like autism, ADHD and ADD,” says Krex. “Many have been through several nannies before they come to us in search of a professionally trained nanny.”

Deborah Michael, founder of North Shore Pediatric Therapy, found herself in a similar quandary. Her multi-location business is a provider of occupational, physical, speech and developmental therapy services for children. Like Krex, Michael was often asked by parents for help finding nannies who know how to professionally and correctly work with children at any developmental level.

“In addition to providing services to help children maximize their abilities and reach their highest level of potential, North Shore Pediatric Therapy also focuses on educating, training and supporting parents,” says Michael, who is an occupational therapist and is certified in sensory integration. “Nannies, however, often get this information second-hand from the parents rather than directly from the therapists.”

When Michael and Krex met at a “mompreneur” networking event about a year ago, the solution to the problem they were both facing came to them quickly. North Shore Pediatric Therapy already had developed an award-winning Behavior 911™ program for helping parents decrease their children’s inappropriate behavior. The two women decided to join forces and adapt Behavior 911™ to train nannies.

“Super Nanny Academy™ will help parents insure their home environment is stable. We’ll work with parents and nannies on an action plan so everyone interacting with the children is on the same page,” added Michael.

A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the class. Additionally, nannies registered with First Class Care who attend the course will achieve the title of First Class Care Platinum Nanny and qualify for a higher level of compensation. Families can ask to have First Class Care to provide a nanny who has already received training, or if they already have a nanny, she can attend the course.

Caregivers notice the difference immediately. “The behavior course gave me tools to help me manage a 14-year-old autistic child,” says Andrea, a First Class Care nanny who participated in the course. “I’ve learned how to communicate better about the situation with the family.”

Super Nanny Academy™is a single-session, four-hour group class offered the second Saturday of every month at North Shore Pediatric Therapy’s Glenview office, 1308 Waukegan Road, Suite 103. The cost of the course is $185. Private sessions are also available.
