Texas – Oil from the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico has surfaced in Texas. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the presence of tar balls on Texas beaches indicates the oil has hit each of the five Gulf states.
Hans Graber, University of Miami marine physicist and co-director of the Center for Southeastern Tropical Advanced Remote Sensing, is quoted by the AP as stating of the presence of the oil, “It was just a matter of time that some of the oil would find its way to Texas.”
As noted in the report, the amount of tar balls seen in Texas is small in comparison to other areas; however, cleanup efforts have begun. Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is quoted by the AP as stating in a news release of plans to ensure BP PLC foots the bill for cleanup, “Any Texas shores impacted by the Deepwater spill will be cleaned up quickly and BP will be picking up the tab.”
