Irving, Texas – An Irving mother now faces capital murder charges after the deaths of her two young children. As reported by CBS 11 News, 30-year-old Saiqa Akhter called 911 to report that she had hurt her two-year-old daughter and five year-old son inside of her apartment.
As noted in the report, the family of Akhter has stated that she has shown signs of mental illness. Wasimul Haque, the uncle of both Saiqa Akhter and her husband, Rashid is quoted by CBS 11 as stating of his niece, “When I talked to her she talked to herself. She says I don’t kill my babies. Some invisible force killed this baby.”
Dr. Humera Chowdhary, a psychiatrist with University Behavioral Health of Denton, is further quoted as stating of women and mental health, “We should take this opportunity and learn from this… If they don’t get help, we see these kind of extreme results.”
