Maui, Hawaii (WiredPRNews.com) — Acclaimed rap and film star Mos Def (“Monsters Ball,” “16 Blocks”) will perform his first ever concert in Lahaina on the island of Maui on Saturday, August 7th, 2010 at 9:30 P.M.
Tickets to see Mos Def are now on sale at Ticketmaster.com, or by calling the theatre at (808) 856-7973. The Maui Celebrity Series is sponsored by Haui’s Life’s A Beach, Enterprise Rent A Car, Trilogy Excursions, and Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, which is the official after-party location of the concert series.
Just one day before Mos Def’s first ever Maui concert, MTV’s biggest comic import, Tom Green, will perform in concert himself on Friday, August 6th, 2010.
“This is going to be a spectacular weekend of top tier entertainment in Lahaina. We are bringing in the biggest stars who not only get to see their favorite star while on Maui in an intimate 680 seat venue, but they can then enjoy all Front Street has to offer in Lahaina,” says Evans.
“Up until now there has been nothing like this on the island,” says Evans.
William Shatner, Roseanne Barr, David Spade, Nick Swardson, Paul Rodriguez, and Tom Arnold have all agreed, and the crowd was thrilled by their sold out concerts at The Maui Theatre, the very same venue where the successful production “Ulalena” is held in Lahaina.
Comedian Tom Arnold, an executive producer of the hit TV series “Roseanne,” has signed on to co-produce a reality TV show based on the series, created by Brian Evans, Mark Biltz, and Arman Zajic.
“It’s my hope to involve the people I know in the reality TV show, and to showcase not only the stars, but to give local talent the opportunity to open for stars it would otherwise be rather difficult to get on their radars,” says Evans. “It’s a good opportunity to help do something good,” says Evans.
Governor Linda Lingle also agreed, and awarded Commendations to all of the producers for creating the series.
“During tough economic times, it’s been able to give the island national exposure,” says co-producer Mark Biltz.
Evans, who is a singer himself and opens for the likes of Jay Leno and Joan Rivers in Las Vegas, created the series after being a frequent visitor to the island. “We had no idea it was going to get as big as it’s getting,” says Evans. “I wish people could really see where this is headed.”
Given the show is being created into a reality TV show, it appears people are most definitely going to see it
Evans is also co-creator of “Horrorscope” with childhood friend Ahmet Zappa, son of legendary rock musician Frank Zappa. Evans debut CD has been almost two years in the making, and features a 56 piece big band. A duet with Kelly Osbourne will be featured on the album. Evans will open for Tom Green on August 6th, along with comedian Sunny Dennis and King Martin.
“Tom Arnold knows television. He was executive producer and writer of one of the most successful television shows in American history,” says Biltz. “He’s been a huge supporter of the series.”
“It’s going to be a celebrity celebration with The Maui Celebrity Series on August 6th with Tom Green, and Mos Def on August 7th,” says Evans. “Lahaina is going to be the most rocking place on Maui that weekend, and more great shows are to come.”
