Google social network plans may rival Facebook

Washington – Google is reportedly in talks to build a new social network that may rival Facebook. As reported by AFP, citing a report by the Wall Street Journal, the technology giant is said to be in talks with Playdom, an online game developer, about building the service in which social gaming will be included.
Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, is quoted in the report as stating in a WSJ interview, “you can expect a partnership with Zynga.” Zynga’s online game credits include “Mafia Wars” and “FarmVille.”
Schmidt is further quoted by AFP as stating of the potential revenue that can be generated from advertising via a social network, “This can be a powerful business, a 10-plus billion-dollar business” for the company per year.
