Richmond, Va – The first execution of a woman in the U.S. in five years has been set for September. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Teresa Lewis, 41, who is currently the only woman on death row in Virginia, will also be the first woman to be executed in the state in almost 100 years.
As noted in the report, Lewis was convicted in a 2002 murder plot to kill her husband and stepson, in which she offered sex with she and her daughter as part of an exchange. She was purportedly seeking to collect a $250,000 life insurance policy. Rodney Fuller and Matthew Shallenberger, the gunmen, were convicted and received life sentences for their involvement. Shallenberger committed suicide four years later while incarcerated.
